From Naomi

Thank you to everyone back home who has written ( I love you kids and your messages made me cry). We all are enjoying hearing about how things are going back home.
I have harrassed everyone here to write messages for this blog. Please excuse any misspellings and blame them on me and my typing...most of the people have hand written messages and I type them in. I appreciate the team members who have written messages for the blog because it interesting to get their perspective on the 'adventure' we are having. As you have read in the other messages from tonight, we saw lots of people today, mostly children. We did have some "walk-in's" (just like at home-ha) that were adults. We had seen an 88 year old lady in the same town on Saturday who complained with hearing problems. We put ear drops in her ears and told her to return to the school today to have her ears washed out. She and her husband came in and waited while we tried to get the children seen. Bro. Tuck was handing out Bibles near where they were sitting and the husband asked Bro. Tuck for some reading glasses. We did not expect to see adults today and had not brought our trunk with the glasses, but Bro. Tuck dug around in some boxes and found a pair of glasses. He put the glasses on the man and then gave him a Bible with John 3:16 highlighted. Tears came to the little old man's eyes as he was able to read the verse. While the couple waited for the ear wash, one of the translators noticed that the woman had a piece of plastic wrapped tightly around her index finger and told me I might want to look at her finger when I washed out her ears. I unwrapped the plastic and found a very deep and infected cut. I was amazed that she had not mentioned the cut, which was what was needing attention...forget the earwash. Our great nurses (Stacey and Tamra) cleaned the finger and bandaged it and then we gave her a shot of strong antibiotic (thank you Lynae at Mammoth!), and some antibiotic to take at home (thank you everyone who donated money for medicine and Bibles. Hopefully the finger will heal.
Mom and Ruth--I thought you would get a kick out of this. Larry Johnson was complaining about not being able to hear and how he couldn't afford to get new hearing aids. I told him I had my grandmother's hearing aids he could have. He said, "Well, do you have her teeth too?" He about fell out of his chair when I said, "Yep."
We have a early start tomorrow. Thank you for your prayers...we are all well and having a great time. Love, mom/Naomi

Not only is it still cold today (Tuesday) it’s also raining. The National Weather Service says to expect thunder storms today and tomorrow along with a warming trend to heat us up to a high of 68 by Sunday (in LIT). You can expect a few clouds on your arrival to Little Rock, but that should be about it (I’ll keep you posted if the forecast changes).

What time is your plane scheduled to land? (on Sunday—right?)

I was attempting to hammer an iron stake into the ground with the flat end of an axe this past weekend (long story) and managed to catch the skin of my knuckle between the two---ouch! Luckily, the gloves I had on kept the injury from being too bad. After washing my cut/scrap with clean running water from our home kitchen I went to our indoor bathroom where the in-house medicine cabinet was located. I found Neosporin + Pain Relief along with a stretchy Band-Aid (good for bendable parts) and doctor’d my finger. It was the last Band-Aid; so I proceeded to add this as an additional item to my Wal-Mart list and thought to myself, “I can’t stand going to Wal-Mart—especially the pharmacy section—it’s so crowded and takes up so much of my time.” Oh--and worse than that--I was going to have to get gas in my car on the way.

When I read your story about the 88 year-old lady I realized how ungrateful I am for the blessings I have everyday (even Wal-Mart)—nothing like a 88 year-old Peruvian lady to help me with an attitude adjustment!!

There’s not even a Wong in Cajamarca—how does Nancy do it?

I guess you won’t be bloggin’ in the mountains so be sure to let us know what happens there when you return.

Almost forgot—Merinda gave me the goodies from Costa Rica—THANKS MOM!

Love you lots!

Maggie

Na,
It was so good to read the differnent comments from everyone. Thanks for taking the time. Just wanted you to know that you guys are in my thoughts daily.
This is a new experience for me, and I only had one mishap along the way. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT misspell blog. Filters just aren't what they "oughta" be!!
I'm thinking that today, I will have to try to play a game of spades online. Just don't think I can take it any more. Does that sound like a mature, Christian attitude? From the collective comments of the group, I at least get an inkling of how spoiled and selfish I really am. Not the view of me I wanted to see.
Thanks for the reality check!!
Love you guys,
Sandra
